Basilisco Teodosio Aglianico del Vulture 2018

Basilicata, ItalyBasilisco began in the early 1990s, and was taken over in 2011 by Feudi di San Gregorio, already present in Vulture for a decade by that time. The winery decided to start a project to reclaim the ancient tuff stone caves in the area. This aglianico comes off younger (20 year old) organically farmed vines rooted in the volcanic soils Romano, Fontanelle, Vigne di Mezzo, and Macarico, at 500m. This was fermented in stainless over one month, before a year in French oak and 1 more in bottle prior to release. The volcanic soils are evident in the lift and brightness of this medium+ red, as is the aglianico grape itself, through fragrant plum blossoms, iris, wild blueberry, cassis, and white pepper. Tannins are long and sticky, hugging this through the saline finish. Nice purity and typicity here, especially considering the price.Tasted: 19 October 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
