Somos Barbera Rosé 2020

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AustraliaSomos means “we are” in Spanish, with the 'we' referring to the duo of Aussie Ben Caldwell and Mexican Marco Ruiz Cantú, who met while attending the Uni of Adelaide. They focus on alternative and obscure varieties from sustainably farmed vineyards, and making them in a natural/minimal interventionist way. This barbera comes from Willunga's House Block vineyard. It was basket pressed and native fermented in old French hogsheads, before moving to barrel to age on lees. Pouring a deeper peach hue, this feels full and deliberate on the 13% palate, with raspberry, red currant, pink peppercorns across a lees pad palate, finishing with a bitter orange twist. Nice change of pace, and a pink that will easily sail through fall.Tasted: 16 September 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
