Chateau Bouscasse 2016

Madiran, Sud-Ouest, FranceChateau Bouscassé is the second of the estates led by Alain Brumont, a leading vigneron of Madiran. The winery, based in the commune of Maumusson-Laguian on clay-limestone soils, has been in the Brumont family for several generations. The Bouscassé is a blend of tannat, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc, with an appealing balance of fruit and savoury complexity. Brambles and black currant are complemented by dried herbs, florals, and a meatiness that will be familiar to fans of syrah. Tannat may have a reputation for producing fiercely tannic wines, but that's far from the case here. It's polished and finessed thanks to thoughtful winemaking and five years in bottle. $28 goes a long way here. It's a worthwhile discovery the next time you have a craving for Bordeaux or the Northern Rhone. It's drinking well now but there's no rush to pop the cork, either.Tasted: 25 September 2021Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
