Calalta Onbrìa 2019
Veneto, ItalyCalalta is a small winery at the foot of Veneto's Grappa Mountain, with vineyards located between 150 and 200 meters. Son Nicola took over in 2017, and together with his girlfriend Giulia transformed the already sustainable project to organic farming and producing natural wines. This cabernet franc grows on flinty clay soils at 150-180m. It was native fermented in stainless, where it remained for eight months. This hazy auburn-tinged wine opens with a peppery whiff, which carries through the lighter palate, seasoning sour cherry, red currant, herbal tart raspberry, and crunchy black plum. Tannins are softly sueded, and acidity is softly lifted, finishing with a black pepper and bergamot kiss. Certainly a different, much more natural look at cab franc, and one best suited to a chill.Tasted: 26 September 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $37.00 | 750ml | select private retailers |
