Blue Mountain Pinot Noir Single Vineyard Block 9 Wild Terrain 2019
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAs its name suggests, Wild Terrain is the untamed sibling of the trio of single block wines first launched in 2017. Wild Terrain represents the most extreme and varied topography of the pinot blocks, from steep slopes exposed to the wind and facing south west, to sun drenched, flatter plains over loamy sand. The vines are 22 years old, and the grapes went through a 14-18 day maceration before spending 17 months in French oak. As a result, it would appear to have the best pinot texture of the three single-vineyard block pinots. The nose is dry and savoury with earth, spice, and desert scrub mixed with black plums and ripe raspberries, with fresh acidity that runs through a mineral finish. Complex and brooding, this is a keeper. I suggest ageing this bottle for three to five years or serving with duck confit this year to take on all the pointy bits and flavours.Tasted: 17 September 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $55.00 | 750ml | winery direct |
