Jean-Claude Ramonet Bourgogne Aligoté 2018
Burgundy, FrancePierre Ramonet arrived in Burgundy in the late 1920s with nothing but a knapsack, and started to earn money by buying and vinifying grapes. The land value was very low, so hardworking Pierre was able to accumulate vineyard plots surrounding the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, with his first purchase within the great Ruchottes vineyard in 1934. Pierre eventually handed over the reins to his son André, who passed in 2011, and subsequently to his grandchildren, Noël and Jean-Claude, who had tended the family vineyards since 1984. The Domaine produces 24 appellation wines from 40 acres located primarily near Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet in the southern Côte de Beaune. This Bourgogne Aligoté comes from vines planted in 1956 and 1963. Quite intense in the mouth, yet restrained with 12.5%, this achieves that rare wonder in wine of lightness of being while complex. Darts of reduction weave throughout lemon thistle, river stone, crunchy pear, all riding a slick of downy lees, and finishing with a flush of wild meadow grass and ample flake salts. Quite alluring, and holding its slender figure considering the 2018 vintage.
