Martin's Lane Dehart Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016
East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaUnder winemaker Shane Munn’s vision, the tiny perfect Martin’s Lane Winery is fast becoming one of the most exceptional pinot noir facilities built anywhere in the wine world. And the same vision is turning out some spectacular pinot noirs that 30 years ago would never have been considered possible. Set high above the lake facing west into the setting sun, Dehart Vineyard in East Kelowna is just beginning to hit its stride at 14 years of age. It is planted to a mix of clones 667 and 777, co-fermented in concrete with up to 45 percent whole bunches over 32 days. Gentle, gentle, gentle is the mantra of many pinot producers, but at the six-level winery that doesn’t own a pump, the gravity fed, five movement production program is a way of life. There is no deviation under Munn’s critical eye. The Dehart pinot is rich and full-bodied, offering ripe black cherry with savoury undertones reminiscent of the Sonoma Coast but with more precision and polish. At 14.5 percent alcohol, it has a Grand Cru's presence from its fresh entry to its cool, spicy finish. It is bigger than last year, but the tannins are more refined.Tasted: 02 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:BC | $100.00 | 750ml | winery online/direct |
