Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaYear two organically certified fruit from the spectacular Garnet Valley project is a wine of two stories. The nose is cool with soaring floral notes, a touch of reduction, and some smoky undertones. There is bright, fresh red fruit with stony mineral fruit support on the palate before a smoky, campfire, bacon fat theme kicks in. It is all wild-fermented in concrete and open top stainless tanks for a month. Twice daily punchdowns preceded a basket press and ten more months of storage in concrete. The acidity easily pierces its silky finish. Given the smoky tone, I recommend serving this now with food for best results. Lots of promise here to be something special in a better year.Tasted: 25 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis special pinot comes off their high altitude, organically farmed Garnet Valley Ranch. It is native-fermented in concrete and open-top stainless tanks for four weeks, with gentle twice-daily punch-downs before being basket pressed into concrete tanks for ten months ageing before heading to bottle, unfiltered. It is quite smoky from the get-go, a cautious and unfortunate side effect from the wildfire-tinged 2018 vintage. Through the cloud of smoked wood, dusky plum, wild blackberry, black cherry emerge, ringed with firm stoniness and housed by fine, softly sticky tannins. There's an easy lofted acidity that brightens this, leading to a subtle saline, spiced finish — certainly a wine of vintage and place.Tasted: 27 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:
