Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaExpect a big powerful red with blackcurrants, ripe plum, tobacco and earthy resin. The tannins are youthful and grippy with a long, full-flavoured, earthy, black fruit finish that will need time to soften up. Beef and mushrooms are required if you are going to open this now. Hypothesis 2016 leads with 42 percent cabernet sauvignon and is filled out with merlot, cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot, all from the Arise Bench. It gets 16 months in 33% new French oak and a further three years in bottle. The vintage was superb in many ways, signalling that Hypothesis made in the Bordeaux style will require a minimum of five to seven years further ageing before it is released.Tasted: 06 June 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis year's big boy blend from Culmina blends 42% cabernet sauvignon with merlot, cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot, all from their Golden Mile Bench estate's Arise Bench. This is a current release at 2016, with 16 months in barrel (33% new) and 3 years bottle aging before release. Thankfully, as this big bruiser requires ample airtime and decanting upon opening. Roasted meats, charcoal, toasted cedar lead the full, sluggish palate, drawing baked blackcurrants, ripe plum, black cherry compote, tobacco, black earth along its path. Tannins are ample and ragged, though now absorbing into the dense soup of black fruit. Partner this with roast root veg and / or roast beef now, or wait a few years and try the same pairing. Old school.Tasted: 08 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:
