Conviviale Primitivo 2019
Salento, Puglia, ItalyThis southern Italian red shows fleshy dark berry and a touch of cinnamon. It's quite a fruit-driven primitivo, which will certainly appeal to fans of California zinfandel. (The two varieties differ in name only.) Appealingly, it's done in an unoaked style and it's not masked by residual sugar, which seems to be an emerging trend among Puglia producers. It's not overly complex, but there's good character to the fruit and it makes for a satisfying pour at a more than decent price. Another winner from Boutinot.
