Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2020 chardonnay is all clone 100, regeneratively farmed and hand-harvested at 23.1 Brix and 2.1 tons of fruit to the acre. It is predominately stainless fermented (85%), with the remainder fermented in new French oak and aged sur lie. Lots going on here, including a garlic lees aroma, lemon, green fruit, and nutty reductive notes with some sulphur poking through the finish. All that said, this is heading in the right direction. A little more precision and care during the winemaking process should ensure future versions get better. But, for now, give this another year in the bottle and then served it with a favourite roast chicken recipe.Tasted: 25 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCovert Farms' inaugural chardonnay, the 2020 was clone 100, planted in 2007 on their organic estate, at 420m up on McIntyre Bluff. This was fermented and aged in a mix of 75% stainless, 25% oak. Creamy and round, with ample wood-spiced lemon curd, lemon peel, green apple, Anjou pear, macadamia nut leading the upfront palate, brightened by altitude and a cool stoniness that lingers on the finish. Great first effort, and looking forward to future editions (and a little less wood-presence). Drinking well now with roast chicken.Tasted: 12 June 2021Tasted by: Prices:
