Quinta da Lixa Morgado da Vila Pét-Nat 2018

Vinho Verde, Northern Portugal, PortugalThink you know Vinho Verde? Think again. From Minho's Quinta da Lixa and the Meireles family, this was the appellation's first certified pét-nat, blending the floral aromatics of Loureiro with the pure citrus of Alvarinho. Native fermented and bottled with crown cap mid-way through fermentation to capture the bubbles, this a is light, bone dry fizz of tangerine peel, fragrant white peach, lemon verbena, and bitter almonds on a tight, energetic palate, finishing with a lick of anise and salinity. My bottle certainly was under ample pressure; I lost 1/3 of the wine when I cracked the crown cap. Great to see innovation and adventuresome winemaking out of this fresh, Atlantic-lashed, oft pigeon-holed region. Looking forward to following this project (and hope they get their pressure under control).Tasted: 27 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
