Podere Le Ripi Signi e Follia Rosso di Montalcino 2016

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyPodere le Ripi is a 54 hectare organic and certified biodynamic estate owned by Francesco Illy (yes, of the Trieste coffee family), filled with forest, olive trees, and vineyards. Illy found the Podere Le Ripi site in 1997, south east of Montalcino, and previously owned by a shepherd. He planted the vines three years later. This sangiovese comes from schist and limestone soils, and was native fermented in cement vats before aging 30 months in large oak barrels. Pale cherry in hue, this has ample perfumed cherry before leading to a medium+ palate with dried cherry, dried raspberry, and fine spicing. Tannins are grippy and firm, taking this to the drying finish.Tasted: 13 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
