Vinho Verde, Northern Portugal, PortugalThis alvarinho is grown on granitic soils from the renowned subregion of Monção and Melgaço. The colour is pale, the textures crisp, and the flavours bright. Expect a mixture of floral and white fruit with a sea salt mineral undercurrent. Simply simple, but a wonderful seafood wine. Not in Canada, but it should be.Tasted: 14 June 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Vinho Verde, Northern Portugal, PortugalJoão is considered by many to be a Portuguese pioneer, consulting for many years before beginning his own projects in 1990, and always focusing on lower yields, estate fruit, varietal character, biodiversity, and sustainability. After starting his own wines in Alentejo, he expanded his vineyards to select locations in Tejo, Beiras, and the Douro. Vinho Verde is his most recent project. This alvarinho comes from the prized subregion of Monção and Melgaço, and its granitic soils. This was partially fermented in new French oak (10%), with the remainder in stainless, cool, with some skin contact. Granite driven, with a stony bed driving pear skin, white peach, lemon pith, scented with a pretty white blossom note, and finishing with a buzzy grip and wash of salinity. Quite smart, this is drinking beautifully now, especially alongside shellfish or green veg dishes.Tasted: 02 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:
