Chiara Condello Sangiovese Predappio 2017

Emilia-Romagna, ItalyChiara Condello is a rising star among the younger generation of winemakers who are taking on the family business, and doing so in a sustainable, sensitive way. She took over from her father in 2015. Her seven hectares including 4 hectares of organically-farmed sangiovese vines, located in the heart of Predappio, in Emilia-Romagna's calcareous clays. She produces two different sangioveses to express this distinct terroir. This comes from vines averaging 40 years, destemmed but left whole berry, and was native fermented, macerated approximately 3 weeks, and then aged in a mix of stainless and old Slavonian oak casks before bottling without filtration. Dark and fleshy with wild blackberry, black cherry, perfumed dark plum is seasoned with scrubby rosemary and thyme. The juicy, cushy palate is structured with finely firm, lightly sticky tannins, easily guiding this to a lengthy, mineral-humming, medicinal kissed finish. Very harmonious and graceful, this is drinking beautifully now, and has the structure and stuffing to age over the next few years.Tasted: 02 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
