Zuccardi Tito Zuccardi 2016
La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaFrom a single site in Uco Valley's Paraje Altamira, this malbec (plus 15 percent cabernet sauvignon and 10 percent ancellotta) was grown at 1100m on a mix of alluvial soils laced with calcium. A whole bunch selection is native fermented and is in contact with the skins for 20 days before transfer to concrete and barrels to go through malolactic fermentation. The wine is a tribute to Alberto "Tito" Zuccardi, Sebastian Zuccardi's grandfather, who founded the winery in 1963. It is aged six months in cement vats and used (but newish) French oak. The nose is alive with florals and black fruit. It is dense and layered with wild black fruit and fresh acidity to keep it all in balance. A steak wine, if ever there was one, and at a welcomed alcohol level well under 14 degrees. Go Zuccardi.Tasted: 10 April 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $47.99 | 750ml | BCLS |
