Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaThis chenin comes from Western Cape's Breede River and Coastal regions, and an obvious mix of soils (alluvial and decomposed granite ruling) and training (including bush vines). This was cool fermented and aged in stainless on lees for 3 months, prior to bottling. Bright and crisp by design, this shows greengage, hedge, Asian pear, gooseberry, crunchy yellow apple on a snappy, brief palate, finishing with some stony spice. This youthful 2020 vintage shows a whiff of sulphur dioxide upon opening, but that's quick to dissipate. What remains is attractive honeyed orchard fruits and some of chenin's inherent savouriness.
