Garzón Tannat Reserva 2018

Garzon, Maldonado, San José, UruguayTannat is the petit verdot of the south of France, but something happened to Bodega Garzon in Uruguay, namely Alberto Antonini. Antonini is on the shortlist of the world's smartest and most sensitive wine consultants, and his work at Garzon is nothing short of spectacular. Uruguay has had success with tannat for some time, but none have been as elegant and equally structured at the same time as the Garzon wines. Working with 1000 separate blocks, Antonini has crafted wines of amazing grace while remaining true to the power of tannat and its famous full flavours. The proximity to the cold Atlantic Ocean helps promote bright fruit characters that offset the obvious black fruit. Yet even there, it is black plums over black currants and black raspberries over cassis. It is the tannin and the texture of this beautifully balanced wine that makes it so special. No amount of bungling at the retail and distribution level of this wine since its early releases across Canada, and there has been plenty in our estimation, can hold this label down. Let's hope this wine finally gets the recognition it deserves. Stock up; they are giving this away.Tasted: 09 April 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
