Hester Creek Block 3 Reserve Cabernet Franc 2018
Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA cool spring followed by a super warm and dry early summer brought a fall of fully ripe fruit with fine acidity. Block 3 is likely the oldest block of cabernet franc in British Columbia, planted in 1968, bringing complexity and intense flavours to this label. It is all hand harvested, destemmed, and whole berry pressed to ferment in Ganimede Italian fermenters. The wine is pressed off gently, and the juice fractions are separated, with only the best lots making it to Block 3. The final blend is aged 18 months in predominately French oak barrels and then cellar aged 6-8 months. I like the hedonistic style, with rich, warm, savoury black fruit flecked with raspberries, blackberries, sagebrush, and smoky peppery notes. It is fairly soft to allow early drinking.Tasted: 08 March 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $25.99 | 750ml | winery online/direct, select private retailers & restaurants |
