Gianni Masciarelli Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2019

Abruzzo, ItalyCerasuolo d'Abruzzo is one of the only Italian appellations dedicated to rosé, and this is a serious one at that. Cerasuolo translates as ‘pale cherry red’, and this pours a glowing light cherry hue. Montepulciano from Loreto Aprutino's calcareous clays, at 250m, spent only 4-6 hours on skins before a ferment and short rest in stainless. Crunchy up front, with cherry, red currant, this glides along the slender palate, lightly gripped by tannins, to a fresh, lightly peppery finish. I do wish they'd ditch the crappy plastic cork and move to screwcap for more vibrancy. A gentle, quiet, charming rosé, ideal with lighter mushroom risotto or bouillabaisse.Tasted: 14 March 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
