Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is a BC GSM that comes off the Black Sage Terrace just west of Black Sage Bench Road. The soils are sandy, but unlike the bench, the loamy topsoil sits over granitic gravels, all of which seem to agree with this blend of grenache, syrah, mourvèdre. The wine is blended before spending 14 months in French oak and heading to the bottle. The style is Bartier fresh with pure red fruits filling the front of the palate before softer round strawberry and raspberry dovetails into a peppery finish. It is a barbecue wine you can drink while you are grilling and finish with the main course. Pricey.Tasted: 26 March 2021Tasted by: Prices:
Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their Black Sage Terrace estate vineyards and its sandy loam over granitic gravels, this grenache, syrah, mourvèdre was destemmed and fermented separately over three weeks before heading to French barrels for 14 months. This showcases the trio well: syrah's peppery florals backed up with mourvèdre's black wildness, and grenache's sunbaked strawberry warmth. Tannins are soft, as is the cushy palate, taking this to a warming, peppery finish. Crack this friendly wine now, as intended, particularly with BBQ ribs or tofu.Tasted: 10 April 2021Tasted by: Prices:
