Lightning Rock Blanc de Noirs Canyonview Vineyard 2019

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAs its name suggests, Canyonview Vineyard (planted in 2003) looks out over dramatic Trout Creek Gorge that runs across Summerland before it empties in Okanagan Lake. Lightening Rocks works with three single vineyards that lie within kilometres of each other in Summerland, and each produces a distinctive style. This Pinot Noir Canyonview is whole cluster pressed into neutral oak puncheons where it goes through wild primary fermentation and malolactic fermentation. Unfined and unfiltered, it is tiraged and bottled in January 2020, with no dosage and minimal sulphur. Like last year this bottle explodes in the glass with energy and freshness, showing grapefruit and passion fruit notes with a light, pleasant saline note in the finish. Impressive and ready to drink. I'm guessing there isn't enough money to age this wine any longer in the cellar, but something tells me it could be fabulous with 60 months of ageing. Serve with oven warmed cheese straws, and forget about your troubles.Tasted: 01 February 2021Tasted by: Prices:
