Eric Texier Chat Fou 2019
Côtes du Rhône, Rhone Valley, FranceEric Texier is a leading natural and biodynamic vigneron in the Rhone, renewing and reviving the tiny Brézème appellation in North, as well as acting as négociant for other like-minded sites in the Rhône and Mâconnais. This humble Côtes du Rhône is based on 85% grenache with the remainder blending marsanne, clariette, and chasseslas, and vines planted between 1968 and 1978 on clay, limestone, quartz, and granitic rocks. After a native ferment and short maceration in concrete, this is gentle pressed before a year's rest in in concrete, and bottling without fining or filtration. Juicy, bright, and mineral led, this pretty, slight red could be mistaken for a proper Julienas or Régnié. Wild raspberries, strawberries, crushed red florals swirl amidst a buzzy granitic base, with finely grippy concrete-formed sides firmly hemming this to a lingering, peppery finish. As mentioned, mineral-led, and charmingly smashable while remaining a serious wine.Tasted: 02 February 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $33.00 | 750ml | private wine shops |
