Craven Wines Chenin Blanc Karibib 2019

Polkadraai Hills, Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaTheir 4th vintage of Chenin, this is from early-picked, 37-year-old radial bush vines on the weathered granite soils of Polkadraai’s Karibib Vineyard, a vineyard they took control of in 2015, and started organic viticulture. Grapes are whole bunch pressed to neutral 500L barrels after 5 hours, and after a five month wild ferment and natural MLF, it was left on the lees for four more months before racking. Savoury and complexed, this is really not about fruit, but about place. Tangerine, honeysuckle, green earth rides over a generous bed of downy lees, while a characteristic granitic grip hums along the lengthy, wild scrub kissed finish. Drinking very well now, very much in youth, and will age gracefully.Tasted: 17 February 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
