Château d’Aqueria Tavel 2020

Tavel, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceD'Aqueira reaches way back in time to 1595 Tavel, the village's name, the appellation, and the wine produced in the appellation. Jean Olivier purchased the estate in 1919, and 101 years later, it's run by his grandsons Vincent and Bruno de Bez. The production is modern, presenting clean wines grown but 10 kilometres southeast of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 68-hectare site surrounding the Château is a mix of red clay, limestone scree, galet stones and sands farmed sustainably using only organic fertilization. The blend is a busy mix of 45/20/15/8/6/4/2 grenache noir, clairette, cinsault, mourvèdre, syrah, bourboulenc and picpoul. Candied strawberry fruit leads with enough acidity to make you salivate for another sip. Round and richer than your average rosé, the sweetness is somewhat exaggerated by a warm, dry growing season not seen in 500 years. Ready to drink serve well chilled it has more gastronomic promise as well. Think Indian curries, smoked salmon, tagines and roast chicken.Tasted: 02 February 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
