Marcel Deiss Complantation Nature 2019
Alsace, FranceFrom Marcel Deiss’ biodynamically farmed vineyards, this is a cofermented field blend of Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Muscat à petits grains, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Beurot, Muscat Blanc, Rose d’Alsace, Traminer, plus others. This was native fermented in foudre, where it rested for one year on lees, with zero inputs throughout, including sulphur. The striking bottle, label, and name preview the wine inside: a contemplative and intellectual (yet delish) blend. Wild lemon, tangerine, galangal, lime pith and peel, honeysuckle stretch across a long, slender frame. The acidity and granitic grip easily hold the tension taut on this 14% wine, drawing it to a pithy grapefruit pith finish, with a lingering, savoury lick of brown butter. I'm tasting this vintage again one year later, and the wine is all the better for it, chiselling out and losing its adolescence chub. Drinking very smartly now, and a bottle I'd love to pop the vino-loc on with some fragrant Thai food.Tasted: 06 February 2022Tasted by: Prices:ON | $34.95 | 750ml | consignment |
