Le Vieux Pin Equinoxe Merlot 2016
Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWe need more of this wine. Equinoxe Merlot comes of La Feuille d'Or Vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench, and a specific block of 20+ year old vines on the mid slopes at the south end of the GI. It's a giant of a wine. Only 18 percent new oak allows the merlot to fully express itself, although under Severene Pinte's hand, it is a quieter, drier French expression that makes you want to drink the whole bottle yourself. 2016 is a terrific vintage, which only intensifies this merlot. Rich black plums mix with fine espresso and even better oak integration before a slightly gritty pay attention to me because I'm going to age a decade finish. Well done.
