Les Hêritiers du Comte Lafon Saint-Véran 2018

Saint Véran, Mâconnais, Burgundy, FranceIn September 1999 Mersault's Lafon family bought a domaine in Mâconnais' Milly Lamartine, renaming it Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon. Saint-Véran is next to Pouilly Fuisse, and is quite early ripening, at least for Dominique Lafon. From organic and biodynamically farmed vineyards (2 parcels), and 25+ year old vines, this holds freshness even in the challenging and warm 2018 vintage. From a lower altitude (250m), rooted in clay over limestone soils, this was aged in large 45hl barrels and 500L demi-muids. Drinking beautifully now, with orchard-fresh pear, fragrant white florals, and a kiss of lemon verbena on the expansive palate, always held with a firm, fine tension through to a vibrant, spiced finish. The wood is present in form, and via the subtle spices, but not at all in flavour.Tasted: 26 December 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
