Kitsch Blanc de Blancs 2017
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis chardonnay was planted in 2013 on the East Kelowna estate and its gravelly, stony soils. After whole-cluster-press and stainless ferment, this went into the bottle to rest on lees for 2 years before disgorging with 4g/L (using their 2017 Chardonnay). Toast, bright green apple, lemon blossoms, roasted almonds, meringue float on the medium palate, appropriately balanced by creamy lees, orchard-fresh fruit, and crunchy acidity. The finish is long and saline, welcoming another glass. Lovely complexities are now entering with the additional lees time; this is exactly where it should be.
