Casa E. di Mirafiore Barolo 2014

Barolo, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyThere were many challenges in 2014 throughout the Piedmont growing season, but it seems time heals all. This fruit was aged in large Slavonian and French casks for 24 months and then another 12 months in bottle before release. Leather and cherries are the main events, with an undercurrent of earthy medicinal notes, and dry, softish tannins. It's currently on a plateau but should be drunk before 2024. I served it with mushroom risotto, and the wine disappeared quickly. Casa E. di Mirafiore has roots in Piedmont that run back to the 1870s. Fortunes fluctuate over a century, and the once up and then down Mirafiore was reawakened in 2008 after a 70-year sleep by Oscar Farinetti, the founder of Eataly. Building on a history of sustainability, the property was certified organic in 2018.Tasted: 20 February 2022Tasted by: Prices:
