Mendoza, ArgentinaKaiken has always been a good idea; having the Montes family of Chile working in Argentina is a very sustainable way to tell the land's story. After all these years, we finally see the results, especially as they filter down to the entry-level wines. The fruit is pure and highly expressive, pitching fresh blackberry and blackcurrants from front to back. Add some savoury spicing, and for the price, it's hard to beat. Mendoza, ArgentinaThis youthful cab spent only 6 months in oak, but it's immediately present, from first sniff through the warming finish. That said, it nails the style of wine, and the target audience. Ripe cassis, blackberry, thorns, anise ride thick on the palate, with hints of smoke, and blocky tannins. Mendoza, ArgentinaThis wine packs a lot of bang for your buck. The fruit is ripe and expressive, ranging from cassis to blackberry to blueberry, with a notch more definition than you typically get at this price point. You also get oak. It’s not overbearing, but has a nice spicy quality that plays well with the fruit. There’s a touch of residual sugar to the palate, but it’s also not a sweet, easy red. There’s some structure here, showing the firm, linear character of cabernet, while still being approachable and not austere.
