Therapy Chardonnay 2018
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaJack Kempf has made a big early impression at Therapy, turning the wine and vineyard program around in a big way, as evidenced by this amazing chardonnay. It's Naramata fruit grown on the 60-acre estate vineyard, entirely whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented in French oak. Some 36 percent of the barrels were new, adding a toasty and complex dimension to the wine. The attack is creamy with a strong reductive leesy note flecked with mineral, stony ripe apricot, honey, and orange blossoms. The winery recommends foie gras over a toasted baguette, pan-seared scallops nestled on a bed of arugula, or salty goat cheese. Our advice is to prepare the food before the bottle is opened, otherwise it will be gone before you get to the food. The profile reminds me of a bit of the outstanding Penfolds chardonnay program.
