Domaine des Deux Roches Macon-Villages Tradition 2018
Mâcon-Villages, Mâconnais, Burgundy, FranceThis wine was a great reminder of how far French winegrowing has come in the past 20 years, aided and abetted by the next generation. Mâcon-Villages was a simple appellation when I was young, but this wine has so much more verve and character. The property is run by brothers Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier, along with their wives (who are sisters). In 1986, they joined forces to manage the family vineyard first planted in 1928 by Collovay’s grandfather. The vines are intertwined between the ancient massive rocks of Vergisson and Solutré, hence the Deux Roches. In the end, the rolling limestone hillsides with pockets of clay are the energizer for this delicious drinking, stony, mineral chardonnay, with some perfectly ripe red fruit to juice up the finish further. Seafood, chicken, vegetarian dishes all fit here. Good value.Tasted: 26 September 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $29.99 | 750ml | select private retailers |
