4 Monos Cien Lanzas 2017

Vinos de Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain4 Monos (4 Monkeys) is a project started in 2010 by 4 wine savvy friends: Javier García, Laura Robles, David Velasco and David Moreno. They work 4 hectares of their own in the Sierra de Gredos mountains, west of Madrid, as well as 10 hectares with other growers, all located in the villages of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Cadalso de los Vidrios, and Cenicientos. Their mission is to capture the purity of the local old vine Albillo and Garnacha on these granitic soils, through the lens of organic viticulture and natural winemaking. This is 60-100 year old bush vine garnacha, along with a 5% tip of garnacha blanca and cariñena, growing on pink, white, and grey granite at 830-960m in the village of Cenicientos. This was entirely whole cluster, native fermented and with up to 43 days maceration before resting in 500L French and Austrian barrels plus 5000L French foudre for 14 months. It was lightly fined and bottled without filtration. Pouring a lighter, slightly cloudy hue, this is quite textural, with ample buzzy granitic grip woven throughout medicinal-edged plum, fragrant raspberry, darting kirsch, to a swell of heat that fans the finish. Tannins are slight, acidity is elevated, and the mouthfeel is garnacha-generous.Tasted: 25 September 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
