Mayhem Fortified Gewürztraminer

Mayhem Fortified Gewürztraminer 2018

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Naramata's Cellarsbend Vineyard, these gew grapes were whole bunch pressed and fermented down to 19 brix before the sugar level was arrested with the addition of 93% alcohol. It was then moved to barrel for 20 months' rest, including one summer spent outside in the heat, evaporating water, and concentrating the wine. This pours pale yellow hue, much like a dry white, but that's where the comparison ceases. From first whiff, this is a fragrant, focused, concentrated wine, with ample orange blossom, marmalade, apricot jam, golden raisin, caramel, and gingersnap. The fuller palate is glossy and smooth, and amply sweet, with a lingering anise / apricot glow. At 18%, a little goes a long way. Try pairing this, chilled, with pumpkin pie.Tasted: 15 October 2020Tasted by: Prices: BC 30.43 500 winery online/direct Producer: Meyer Family VineyardsDistributors: International Cellars Inc.
