Jean-Claude Lapalu Côte de Brouilly 2015
Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, Burgundy, FranceJean-Claude Lapalu is one of the naturalist set of Bojo, influenced by Lapierre, Foillard, Thevenet and the like. As with the other great producers of Beaujolais, the farming here is exemplary, with organic certification since 2010, and biodynamic practices in use. From 50+ year old north facing vines on the clay / blue granite of Côte de Brouilly. This was native fermented and semi-carbonic over 3 weeks prior to aging 6-8 months in used tonneaux prior to the blend. This was bottled without fining or filtration, and only minimal sulphur. Rock juice. Perfumed stony blue plums, wild blackberry, wild blueberries, purple florals ride a softly plumped (thanks to 2015) though super juicy palate, still vivacious with that granitic energy and lofted, pixellated acidity. Tannins are fine and slightly grippy, guiding this mineral driven, medium bodied red to a white pepper and dried herb finish.
