Willamette Valley, Oregon, United StatesErratic Oaks Vineyard is over ten years and will soon find itself in Mt. Pisgah sub-AVA of the Willamette Valley, across the road from renowned Freedom Hill Vineyard. Citation’s Willamette Valley pinot is a “best block” selection from Erratic Oaks that are fermented separately and seven to twelve days later its pressed-off to French oak barrels and aged for sixteen months. The final mix is a blend of the best barrels. The nose opens with ripe black cherry notes, light vanilla and earthy undertones. On the palate, the black cherries continue to mix with juicy black raspberries and a dusting of vanilla. The style is very approachable, and while it has that Oregon spice and underbrush, it also offers ripe fruit to smooth final palate and be true to pinot’s mouth-filling mandate. Well done. Drink or hold through 2024.Tasted: 21 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:
