Joseph Mellot Cuvée Pierre Etienne Sancerre Blanc 2016

Sancerre, Upper Loire, Loire, FranceCuvée Pierre Etienne is grown on the very best flint-based slopes facing the Loire River. The bottle is large and heavy, a kind of old fashioned hint that wine is barrel fermented, and aged in oak split evenly between one, two and three-year-old barrels for 26 months. The wood is virtually no issue in 2016, given the elegance and fruit in this wine. The nose is a sophisticated offering of mineral, green melon, and lemongrass. The palate is even more intriguing with an enticing creamy texture and more smoky, flinty guava and pear flavours. Excellent quality. The finish is long and complex. This bottling honours founder Pierre Etienne Mellot (1513) and his myriad descendants. Production is limited to 250 cases. The label is a reproduction from the 1930s.Tasted: 17 July 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
