Saumur, Loire, FranceThis dependable Loire cabernet franc often overdelivers for the price, and the 2018 vintage is not an exception. The juicy black fruits have a wild, savoury edge, with a stemmy, spicy component that evokes ripe cabernet franc. It's, first and foremost, a vin du soif, but the depth here is still above the norm. Recommended and good value.Tasted: 22 March 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Saumur, Loire, FranceAlliance Loire Cooperative sources fruit from across the Saumer AOC in the Loire Valley to assemble this simple but affordable cabernet franc. The nose is aromatic and full of leafy plummy fruit that spills onto the palate, mixing juicy blueberry and plum with some light, chewy tannins that lend a rustic finish to the Euro-styled franc. I served this with grilled sausages, and it worked out perfectly for the price. You could cellar it for another year or two, but go with the sausages or a similarly robust menu item, and it should be fine.Tasted: 18 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:
