Montedelma Franciacorta Brut 2016

Lombardy, ItalyThe Montedelma Franciacorta is grown in the vineyards of Passirano (Valenzano district) and Provaglio (Provezze district) at mid-hill. The blend is an elegant 80/15/5 mix of chardonnay, pinot bianco, and pinot nero. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented separately, and aged until springtime blending. The final cuveƩ spends at least 18 months on the lees before being disgorged, and often up to 24 months. The colour is barely a perceptible straw-yellow. The mousse is tiny and delicate, forming a creamy cap on pouring before melting into the wine and persisting on the palate, lifting the subtle fruit, flowers, and currants before the yeasty brioche kicks into the finish. There is fine acidity and refinement in general, making this a very impressive Italian bubble. I think a seafood tower is in order.Tasted: 24 June 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
