The blend includes fully ripe, hand-picked, old, bush vine grenache and syrah grapes along with a bit of mourvèdre. Rich and savoury, with stony dark red fruits, it will stand up to a variety of roasted and grilled foods from mushrooms to lamb, and most anything form the kitchen. The Boutinot's love affair with the southern Rhône stretches back three decades. After years of locating gems and selling wines, the company purchased a winery and vineyards above the village of Cairanne, just northeast of the town of Orange. In all, it owns seven vineyards, planted to old vine grenache noir, syrah, mourvèdre and the local champion carignan noir. They have been instrumental in reviving other traditional varieties such as cinsault and counoise, and they practice time-honoured Rhône winemaking techniques in their cellars.
