Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis Similkameen-meets-Bordeaux inspired blend is flushed out with syrah, the star of the Valley. Four vineyards have contributed a final blend of 42% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Syrah, and a mix of soils, altitudes, and aspects. After fermentation with cultured yeasts, this was pressed into American and French 225 and 500L barrels (10% new) for 16 months before blending. You certainly taste the wood, with the gutsy black and red fruit expressed through a coffee filter. Smoked cedar, wild blackberries, fleshy dark cherries, and peppery spices flood the juicy palate, with sinewy tannins pinning all in place to a lightly pinched finish.
