Orofino Home Vineyard Wild Ferment Old Vines Riesling 2018
Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Home Vineyard 21B riesling clone is responsible for this delicious wine, on the cusp of celebrating 30 years in the sandy, loamy, gravels of the Similkameen valley. The berries are destemmed and cool fermented on native yeast for a long time in old French barrels. Think complexity in and amongst vibrant fruit. It’s been a while since I have visited these wines, but clearly, the winemaking is much wiser, and the ability to expose the stony mineral wet stone aspect of these old vines has taken this wine to another level. Apricot and limes is jolted with a captivating acidity that makes you want to empty the bottle immediately. Throw in a savoury element and outstanding balance, and you have a unique wine that should scare the Old World. Oh, and under screwcap, this will live forever in the bottle. Back up the truck if there is any left.Tasted: 01 May 2020Tasted by: Prices: BC 25.13 winery online, select private retailers

Orofino Home Vineyard Wild Ferment Old Vines Riesling 2018
Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom 29 year old Home Vineyard vines, this 21B riesling is rooted in sandy loam over gravels. After destemming and a long native ferment in old French barrels, the wine rested for a short time in wood, with occasional batonnage. Plump apricot and lime opens this off-dry, gentle white, bedded with river stones and sculpted with a pithy lime acidity, that really sneaks up and steals the mouth-watering finish. There's a lovely balance to this savoury, interesting, accessible wine, drinking well now but with years ahead in bottle. 96 cases produced.Tasted: 26 May 2020Tasted by: Prices: BC 25.13 winery online, select private retailers
