Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon The Winemaster's Reserve 2018
Western Cape, South AfricaThis cabernet sauvignon, sourced from across the Western Cape, shows surprising typicity and varietal character, which is a rarity at this price. There's a sense of freshness to the currant and blackberry fruit, which is lifted by tobacco and spicy herbs. It has an honesty to it, with little oak and fully embracing cabernet's inherent (and attractive) greenness. Medium-bodied and structured, this isn't a blockbuster, but it's just about perfect for a midweek barbecue.Tasted: 13 April 2021Tasted by: Prices:
Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon The Winemaster's Reserve 2018
Western Cape, South AfricaDeep claret colour, forward fruit aromas with black currant, cherry jam, black olive, and graphite, with sweet green menthol perfume and a hint of tobacco spice. Juicy and vinous, ripe black fruit suffuses the mouth, with bright acidity and a leafy greenness adding refreshment. Of full-ish weight, mouth-drying tannins sit comfortably amongst the fruit and finish with a black licorice nip. Showing the smoke and tobacco of many Cape reds, this is a worthy BBQ wine for a crowd. Affordable and true to form from a historic Paarl winery.Tasted: 06 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:
