The blend in 2018 is syrah and viognier from two Osoyoos vineyards, some of which were co-fermented in a clay amphora and left on skins for nine months. The result is heightened perfumed aromatics. On the palate, the wine is juicy, spicy, and alive with plummy fruit across its unique silky textures and mineral-flecked finish. You can drink this now, which is a bonus, but its balance would suggest it will hold comfortably through 2028. Narrative Syrah Viognier 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis Narrative 2018 saw syrah and viognier cofermented in amphora, left on skins for 9 months, and then blended with additional syrah treated the same, for more complexity and blue/black fruited intensity. Mouth filling blueberry, plums, black cherry is woven with cracked peppercorns and downy violet across a fleshy palate, livened with an easy, stony acidity. Narrative Syrah Viognier 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is a more delicate style of syrah led by perfumed, floral aromatics that are backed by plummy fruit. No doubt, the addition of viognier plays an important role. It makes for an elegant pour, that’s really quite pretty. There’s only a handful of wineries making syrah like this in the Okanagan, but it’s unquestionably a successful style. Between the freshness of fruit, relatively moderate alcohol, and fine, silky tannins, it’s easy to pour another glass. Crushable indeed.
