Domaine de Coyeux Elegans Muscat de Beaumes de Venise Vins Doux Naturel 2014

Beaumes de Venise, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceWe don't see much Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, or any Vin Doux Naturels on our market, which is a shame, because these elegant sweet wines are very misunderstood. A VDN is sweet because the fermentation is stopped mid-way, with the addition of high alcohol spirit, killing off the fermenting yeast, and leaving ample residual sugar in the wine (in this example, 110 g/L RS. From Muscat à petits grains noirs et blancs planted in the 1980's, this is a potent, focused sweet wine rich in orange blossom, baked honeyed pear, with whiffs of lavender and torrents of vanilla syrup. Best taken well chilled, with a simple dessert of poached orchard fruit.Tasted: 24 May 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
