Comando G Mataborricos 2017

SpainComando G is a partnership of minds, mates and winemakers Fernando GarcĂa and Dani Landi. They were drawn to the near-forgotten high altitude old-vine vineyards of Sierra de Gredos, near Madrid, and began to gain the trust of the previous generation(s) who had tended to these wind-swept vines for the Co-ops. With time, came trust, and the chance to see these old vines into these current wines. A pale crimson hue, this light, naturalist, super fun blend of 50% Listan Prieto, 25% Carignan, and 25% Garnacha was originally made and bottled for their annual party. It was subsequently released to the public by popular demand. The Listan Prieto, a grape most commonly found in the Canaries, was found interplanted in their high altitude Gredos vineyards, so they decided to use it for Mataborricos. This limited run bottling is native fermented in amphorae, and bottled with no sulphur. Very light on its feet, lofted with strawberries, wild raspberries, red liquorice, scrubby rosemary, and a dusting of pink pepper. Tannins are near negligible, just shadowing this to the lingering, humming finish. Most definitely party-worthy, enjoy this charmer with a light chill.Tasted: 16 May 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
