Vérité Le Désir 2016

Sonoma County, California, United States2016 celebrates 50 years of winemaking for winemaker Pierre Seillan, someone who is all about structure, precision, and place. Desir is his ode to cabernet franc, and it begins with a highly attractive fragrant nose emanating from a blend of 82/12/6 cabernet franc, merlot, and malbec. A savoury dried herb flavouring streaks an intimate weave of red and black fruits, toning down the mix of blackcurrants and plums with a hint of cassis. The fruit comes off four different sites, and some 50 micro-crus, as Seillan likes to refer to his blocks across Sonoma County, including Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, Knights Valley, and Bennett Valley. The variations of soils and climate give the wine a complexity that lifts it over the simply hedonistic. The tannins are a joy as they cover your palate with dense, ripe textures that fade in the fruit, acid, and mineral notes in the finish. It is a superb bottle of wine that rivals some of the very best red blends in the world.Tasted: 11 April 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
