Tantalus Maija Pinot Noir 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMaija, named for owner Eric Savics' daughter, is the evolution of pinot noir fruit the originally went into a label called Juvenile. It comes off some of the youngest Dijon clone plantings at the estate, plus a nearby vineyard in South East Kelowna. Maija is fermented on native yeast and aged in French barriques for 11 months, with 20 percent new. The nose is a rambunctious smoky plum affair with a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, dark cherry and black raspberries are vying for your attention before a cedary finish with light but lingering tannins. There is no rush to drink tonight, but you can serve this with more sumptuous dishes like grilled salmon, duck confit, or duck salad.Tasted: 27 April 2020Tasted by: Prices:
