Rust Wine Co Cabernet Merlot 2014
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Rust wines come off five separate vineyards planted as early as 1973 in the Okanagan Valley and Similkameen Valley, and the sub-GIs of Okanagan Falls and the Golden Mile Bench. The home vineyard, South Rock, was initially purchased from the Crown in 1963 by John Tokios. In 1968 it was planted to Okanagan riesling, bacchus, chancellor and other hybrid varieties that have since been pulled out and replaced by gewürztraminer, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and rare zinfandel. 2014 was a lauded vintage, and this cab/merlot has all the hallmarks of the ripe vintage from the south Okanagan, replete with spice, warmth, and a whack of savoury black fruit. This will age for a while longer in the bottle with no troubles. Best of all is a juicy factor that keeps it reasonably fresh on the palate. Barbecue spareribs would be a perfect match.Tasted: 10 April 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $40.00 | 750ml | winery direct |
